A Hop and a Skip

Early fall is a great time of year to be out and about. Passing along a few events and activities that may be of interest. See you out there...

Lake Paran Stone Skipping Festival - North Bennington, Vermont

Lake Paran is the place to be this Saturday afternoon, September 17. Everyone from little kids to pros will be letting them rip. A chance to watch Kurt (Mountain Man) Steiner in action. There's a big profile of him in the current issue of Outside and you can see his world record 88 skips here.

Parks and Recreation Exhibit at Bennington Museum

Also in Vermont is this show on the relationship between nature, tourism and lifestyles in the Green Mountain State. Till the end of the year with more info here.

Landscapes for Landsake

The 21st annual art show and sale returns October 8 & 9. Held  at the Maple Ridge Gallery near Cambridge, 50% of sales benefit Agricultural Stewardship Association's farmland conservation efforts. Also of note: sale of art work by Joan Duff Bohrer at Salem Courthouse on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 & 18 from 10 to 4.

Robert Rogers Monument

It's History

There's a couple of neat options for history buffs. The Washington County Historical Society has a book club that discusses works of local interest. Next meeting will be Friday, October 21 at the Rogers Island Visitors Center where the topic will be (no surprise) Robert Rogers. Authors who have written about Rogers and his Rangers include: John R. Cuneo, Burt Garfield Loescher, David R. Starbuck, Timothy J. Todish and Gary S. Zaboly. Email Connie Harris Farrington at connieandlee@roadrunner.com for additional suggestions and more info.
Also in Fort Edward there's a weekly history discussion group hosted by John Weber. It's on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 pm  at Ye Deli, 7 East Street. Free and open to all.
